1979-1983 Toyota Hilux dash parts: OEM numbers and fitment

1978-1983 Toyota Hilux dash parts: OEM numbers and fitment - Filament Lab

If you're restoring a 1979-1983 Toyota Hilux, the dash plastics are usually the first thing to go: brittle, cracked around the radio opening, warped or faded by decades behind the windscreen. Below is every early Hilux dash part we reproduce, the OEM number it replaces, the years and model codes it is listed for, and what to check before you order.

Which early Hilux dash parts do we make?

Everything in this list is designed, printed and checked in our Bundaberg workshop. Each part is made to fit where the factory piece sits.

Part Replaces OEM Years Models listed Material
Right hand dash face 55432-89105 1979-1983 RN30, RN40, LN30, LN40 ABS-GF
Centre dash face 55434-89133 1982-1983 Hilux / Pickup ABS-GF
Double DIN centre dash face 55434-89133 (reference only) 1982-1983 Hilux / Pickup ABS-GF

OEM numbers are listed for reference so you can match parts. These are aftermarket reproductions, not genuine Toyota parts, and they are not made or endorsed by Toyota.

What does each part replace?

Right hand dash face (55432-89105)

This is the panel to the right of the instrument cluster. Ours was modelled directly off an original part from Brandon's own RN46 restoration, so the fit and detail follow the factory piece. It comes with two SPST 20A 12VDC missile toggle switches, handy for accessories like spotlights or inverters. It is a direct replacement with no modification needed.

Centre dash face (55434-89133)

The centre face holds the radio, cubby and ashtray. After 40-odd years, most originals are brittle, cracked around the radio opening or missing their mounting tabs. On our reproduction, your factory radio, ashtray and controls mount straight back in, and the moulded TUNING and VOL-TONE markings are reproduced so it looks right in the dash.

One deliberate change: the 12V cigarette socket opening is sized for a common Narva 81026BL socket (not included), which is a standard size, so most sockets of that size will fit.

Double DIN centre dash face

This version keeps the shape of the factory centre face but replaces the radio and cubby openings with a single double DIN opening. That lets you run a standard size double DIN head unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth or a reversing camera while the dash keeps its factory look. It has built-in side brackets for mounting the head unit. The head unit and wiring are not included. Fitting it takes some work. Modern double DIN head units are longer than the original radio, so the factory radio bracket needs to be modified, and the full factory air control system, the storage box and the ash tray have to be removed.

Centre and right hand combo

If you're doing the whole dash, the combo pairs the centre and right hand faces. Both are printed in the same ABS-GF with the same textured matte black finish, so they match side by side. Because it includes the centre face, the combo is listed for 1982 and 1983. The radio, ashtray, vent and knobs are not included.

Internal vents and cup holder conversion

The internal vents come as a pair and snap into place of cracked, crumbling originals. The cup holder conversion takes the place of the factory ashtray: remove the ashtray, slide the cup holder in, and you're done. No tools and no drilling.

Which years and models does each part fit?

The years matter most on the centre of the dash. Our centre dash face, double DIN face and combo are all listed for 1982 and 1983 only. The right hand dash face, internal vents and cup holder conversion are listed for the full 1979-1983 run.

Model codes are listed exactly as they appear on each product page, for example RN30, RN40, LN30 and LN40 for the right hand dash face, and RN36, RN46, LN36 and LN46 for the internal vents. If your model code isn't listed, or your dash looks different from the product photos, send us a message before ordering.

Why ABS-GF for dash faces and ASA for vents?

We pick the material for the job each part does.

  • ABS-GF (glass fibre reinforced ABS) is used for the dash faces. The glass fibre makes it stiffer and more heat resistant than plain ABS, so large panels stay rigid and hold their shape in a hot cab behind the windscreen.
  • ASA is used for the vents and the cup holder. It is UV-stable and heat resistant, which suits parts that live in the sun. The cup holder is printed at 100% infill for strength.

All of the dash faces come off the printer with a textured matte black finish, and they can be sanded and painted if you want to colour-match your interior.

What should you check before you order?

  1. Compare the product photos with your original part, especially the openings and mounting points.
  2. Check your year: centre faces and the combo are 1982-1983 only.
  3. Check your model code against the product page.
  4. Remember what's not included: radios, head units, wiring, knobs, ashtrays and the Narva socket are sold separately or reused from your car.
  5. If anything doesn't match, ask us first. We're happy to help with fitment questions.

Questions we get asked

Are these genuine Toyota parts?

No. They are aftermarket reproductions designed and printed by us in Bundaberg. They are not made or endorsed by Toyota, and the OEM numbers are listed for reference only.

Do the dash faces need any modification to fit?

The right hand and centre dash faces are direct replacements. The double DIN face is different by design. The factory radio bracket needs to be modified to suit a modern head unit, and the full air control system, the storage box and the ash tray have to be removed.

Can I paint the dash faces?

Yes. They come with a textured matte black finish, and ABS-GF can be sanded and painted to match your interior.

What if the part I need isn't on this list?

Tell us what you need through our custom request form, or send it in to Project Save the Cars, where we pick parts to print free (you cover postage).
